sponsor us! ride blog c2c guide welcome to the web page of highbury quadrant's moderately intrepid c2c cycle team. we made it! stop press! the total amount we have raised for our two charities continues to creep up and is currently at around £3500! you can share in our adventure in the first installment of a comic all about the ride at by clicking on this: we finally touched our front wheels into the north sea early on wednesday evening. and so ended the 150 miles of cycling from the irish sea at whitehaven, across the northern tip of the lake district, over the pennines and steadily down to the north sea at sunderland. we had decided at consett that we would follow the original c2c route to sunderland rather than the alternative to tynemouth. we were pushed on by frequent checks to see how well the sponsorship was accruing. thank you for your messages of support along the way. we hope you enjoyed following our progress on the blog . if you haven't yet sponsored us the please visit our sponsorship pages and help us to achieve our revised goal of £2000. that'd be £1000 for each of our charities not including gift aid. why? it is very rare that primary schools are unlucky enough to suffer the passing of staff, and rarer still of pupils, so the fact that we at highbury quadrant lost two dearly loved members of our community in the same academic year came as an enormous sadness to everyone associated with our school. we have been able to very successfully plant and establish becky’s garden in our juniors’ playground and we will soon be naming our library in sylvia’s memory. on top of this some of the staff suggested we might undertake a fundraising activity – how we ended up with four of us trekking from one side of the country to the other, using only pedal power is beyond me, but there we are, we said we would, so here we go… the charities we have chosen to support are great ormond street children's hospital , in recognition of the limitless care that they gave to becky and her family during her illness; and breakthrough breast cancer - sylvia's charity - for whom she cycled, walked and campaigned with astonishing vigour in spite of her illness. who? teachers, messrs hanley (year 6), harragan (year 5), and wicksey (year 2) (order purely alphabetical) and miss sweeney (year 5) were the four people distracted enough to say yes. what? in case you didn't know, c2c stands for 'coast to coast' and is a sustrans cycle route from west cumbria to the northeast coast. we'll be cycling from whitehaven to tynemouth which is a distance of around 140 miles. we will (hopefully) take three days from 22nd to 25th october - stopping overnight at greystoke near penrith and allenheads in the pennines. we will be travelling up to whitehaven on 21st october on the virgin trains west coast service. an enormous thank-you to virgin who are very kindly providing transport for us and our bikes. please help us to reach our target of £1500 by clicking on the link below to take you to our sponsorship pages:
